Memories

I just designed another layout using this gorgeous paper from Echo Park: For the Record. I really love the combination of black, red and green. The red flowers are so beautiful and match my dress perfectly.  I designed this layout for the May 15th challenge from Once Upon a Sketch.  I really like this blog because you have to use journaling in your layouts. I had lots of fun designing this one. The challenge was to print your journaling. I actually managed to print my journaling on a pre-made journal card. Needless to say it was very hard to line up but I managed to do it. Once it printed, I had to fill in some smudge areas because the surface was glossy and the ink was smudging. It says: "Capturing this moment in time helps us remember the way we were and keep our memories alive" Oct/11

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Lovely LO! I'm so glad you took part.
As far as printing on premade journaling cards, I have a tip or two (being that I print on them a LOT).
First, print it on regular printer paper. Then, grab your journaling card, a pencil and place the paper on a window, or if it's dark outside on a computer monitor (preferably a white space such as a blank word document). The window/computer monitor act as your lightbox, and this way the text printed on the paper shows through the journaling card, so you will be able to line it up perfectly straight.
Next, when everything is lined up, mark the corners of the journaling card onto the printer paper.
Then, run some repositionable dry adhesive on the back of your card, line up with the pencil-marked corners and press everything down. It's important that no edges of the card curl up as this will cause it to jam in your printer.
Also, if you have spiral edge note cards (Such as the one I've used in my DT layout:
http://irmaperedne.blogspot.com/2011/05/once-upon-sketch-may-15-is-live-lo-they.html
...it is very important to tape down (with low tack masking tape) the paper-torn edges as this will also cause your printer to jam up.
*** **** ***
Ink smearing problem: When printing, go to 'properties', and adjust Paper type....you want to set that on "Other transparency" if it's on glossy paper (or there's a glossy paper function too, but I usually do 'other transparency' setting). That way it'll print with less ink=no smearing. Or you can speed up the drying with a heat gun ;)
Whew...I feel like I just wrote a blog post tutorial.
Sorry for the highjack of your comments :)

I actually did exactly what you describe to line up and print. I do like the tip so the ink doesn't smudge. I will chose the transparency option next time. Thanks so much Irma

P.S. also, forgot to mention another option you have.
I once printed on a shiny surface tag that would just not dry, so I took black embossing powder, sprinkled on the still wet text and heat-embossed it. That way it's set immediately and no waiting time.
I did that for this LO (scroll down to see the close up of the tag):

oops...that was with clear embossing powder...my memory fails me LOL :D
